Denitrification plants - plant technology
Groundwater or well water that is to be used as drinking water can be contaminated with higher nitrate concentrations. Among other things, over-fertilization of agricultural land can lead to an increase in the nitrate concentration in the groundwater. According to the Drinking Water Ordinance, there is a limit of 50mg/l. Scientific studies link increased nitrate concentrations in drinking water with an increased risk of cancer. There is also a risk that nitrate will be converted to nitrite in the human body and cause what is known as cyanosis, a disorder in the transport of oxygen in the human body. In order to be able to use this water safely as drinking water, it should be freed from nitrate.
