Water softening systems - system technology

Technical water processes often have specific water quality requirements. Changes in physical or chemical properties such as water temperature, pH value, pressure or the concentration of dissolved substances have a significant impact on the solubility of water components. A change in the water properties in the process can cause ions that would otherwise be dissolved to precipitate and form deposits in the water cycle. In particular, the so-called hardeners, calcium and magnesium ions, precipitate as carbonate compounds and lime soaps. Deposits impair heat transfer in heat exchangers, reduce pipe cross-sections and provide a perfect surface for microorganisms to colonize and biofilms to form. To prevent the formation of these deposits,

The use of a softening system is the most reliable and economical measure to remove hardening agents. Calcium and magnesium ions in particular are exchanged for sodium ions in special pressure vessels filled with ion exchange resins. Sodium is much more stable in the water process than the hardeners and does not form deposits in the water cycle. The softening process is controlled with valve heads specially developed for softening systems. Once the ion exchange resins have reached their hardness removal capacity, the control systems regenerate the resins using a concentrated sodium chloride brine.

On the following pages you will find a representative overview of all types of water softening systems. We offer you a wide range of practical cabinet systems for small applications to systems for industrial processes. We also have a solution for individual problems.

Our softening systems are equipped with powerful control systems from well-known manufacturers. The service team at Weidner Wassertechnik is well trained in the maintenance of water softening systems and is at your side with advice and action.

What we offer:

Control valves for softening systems

The central component of every softening system is the control valve. The regeneration of the ion exchange resin with sodium chloride brine is triggered via the control valve. This happens either at a preset time or after a previously defined volume of treated water. Weidner Wassertechnik equips softening systems with either Fleck control valves or Clack control valves. Fleck control valves are primarily made of gunmetal and represent the robust solution for the industry. Clack control valves are made of Noryl and are the more cost-effective alternative.

Double filter water softening systems can also be equipped with a central microprocessor control that reliably regulates the regeneration cycles and makes the remaining capacity available centrally available.

One-liter water softening systems

One-filter water softening systems consist of a single GRP pressure tank with a control valve and a brine tank. Small systems can be set up as cabinet systems in practical plastic housings, with the cabinet tank also serving as a brine tank. In larger versions, the brine is formed in an additional brine tank.

The use of a more cost-effective single-filter softening system is particularly useful when the downstream water circuit does not require continuous softened water.
